This weekend marks the return of the Pittsburgh Marathon. It had been cancelled the last two years because of the pandemic. For some runners, this is their first time taking on a marathon, for others it may have been a while since they put themselves to the test. No matter what shape you're in, it's all about how you prepare.
In the video on this page, you'll hear from UPMC Physical Therapist Erin Angelini about common injuries and how to prevent them so you don't need medical help on race day.

UPMC Sports Medicine: Half Marathon and Full Marathon Training
Avoid preventable injuries. The most common running injuries usually are preventable. Your body responds to the stress you place on it, so listen to your body when it's hurting.
To help prevent common running injuries:
UPMC Sports Medicine is the Pittsburgh Marathon's official medical sponsor. On race day their medical team will be staffing more than a dozen stations with an army of volunteers that include: Doctors, Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics, Podiatrists, Certified athletic trainers, Physical therapists, Massage therapists, and students in those fields.
