A recent inspection by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Weights and Measures at the New Kensington Giant Eagle found wrong prices on some items and a handful of scales out of compliance.

Three items out of 25 scanned during the inspection rang up at prices higher than displayed.

Five scales out of 40 were out of compliance.

A spokesperson for Giant Eagle tells KDKA Radio, two of the scales were out of compliance due to “improper calibration of the scales themselves.”

Three others were out of compliance because of a ripped certification label or the scale’s placement making it hard for the customer to see the weighing of the item.

“All eight issues brought to our attention were immediately addressed.
We rectified the pricing of the three identified items,” Giant Eagle’s Jannah Jablonowski told KDKA Radio. “The two scales in need of recalibration were remedied. Finally, we have temporarily discontinued use of the three remaining scales until those issues can be addressed and the Bureau can recertify them.

Anyone who thinks they have been overcharged can take their receipt to the Giant Eagle customer service test, “and the team will make it right.”

Giant Eagle also has a “price accuracy policy” that states: “if the price of a product appears on a receipt at an amount higher than the displayed, posted, or advertised price, customers will get the first improperly scanned item for free, and will be charged the corrected, lower price for any additional items of the same product.”
