According to a report from Reuters, Giant Eagle is among several companies that have purchased assets from Rite Aid, which declared bankruptcy for a second time last week.
Others companies that purchased Rite Aid assets include, CVS, Krogers, Albertsons and Walgreens.
KDKA Radio reached out to Giant Eagle. The Pittsburgh-based company says they don’t have any addition information to add but sent the following statement:
At Giant Eagle, we are continually looking for ways to expand our pharmacy services to more people across our communities. We are unable to confirm any details at this time.
Several Rite Aid locations in the Pittsburgh area are set to close in the near future.
Locations that are not sold will eventually close.
It is unknown if Giant Eagle will be taking over any local stores or what assets the grocer has acquired from Rite Aid.
