The Latrobe Elementary School went into lockdown briefly Wednesday afternoon.

In a Facebook post made at 1:42pm, the district wrote, "At approximately 12:55, an incident was reported to 911 that required Latrobe Elementary School to be locked down. The City of Latrobe police and Pennsylvania State Police responded accordingly and are in the process of securing the building. Due to this situation, all district buildings are in lock down. Updates regarding dismissal will be forthcoming."

Since then, the district posted an update stating that the school has been cleared by law enforcement officials and that the staff and students are safe.

According to the statement, officials believe the threat could have been a prank.

The district says dismissal happen as normally scheduled and law enforcement will remain on site the remainder of the day.
