The owners of a popular ice cream shop that has been around for nearly 75 years in Greensburg is making upgrades so they can stay open year-round.
Tastyland on the 1400 block of Route 66 is installing a drive-thru window so they can serve their customers 365 days a year, not just during the spring and summer months.
Ryan with Tastyland tells KDKA Radio says there were several factors that went into installing the drive-thru.
“One, was because we lose money from closing and reopening every year,” said Ryan. “Two, we want to hire people year-round and provide consistent income to our staff. Three, was because we hate wasting food and closing forces us to waste food. Now with being year-round we can continue being a near-zero food waste restaurant year-round.”
While the drive-thru menu will be slightly different, Tastyland will still offer soft-serve ice cream along with their famous “locally-sourced beef burgers.”
Tastyland plans on re-opening, for good, in March.
