No fans at more than one high school football game? In Southwest PA?

Why?

Gun violence.

Authorities considered the possibility someone could bring a gun to a game to get even.

For example, to settle the score after last weekend’s hayride shootings. A Penn Hills student was wounded and another teen was killed.

Too many young people are killed with guns. They are almost one-third of Pittsburgh’s homicide victims.

We support a proposal before City Council to send nine million dollars to a Hill District-based nonprofit.

The Center that CARES would use the funds to hire outreach workers and send them to seven neighborhoods to intervene when violent retaliation appears imminent.

The money could not be spent at a better time. In 2021 homicides are up 55% through June compared to last year
