The return of a Pittsburgh icon will be here soon.

Gus & YiaYia’s ice ball and treat stand plans to have it’s 2025 opening day on April 12, weather permitting.

Mike Spanos now runs the cart located at Allegheny Commons Park on the North Side after owner Gus Kalaris passed away last summer at the age of 92.

Gus took over the business in 1951 from his dad, who started it in 1934.

Gus’ wife or “YiaYia”, Stella, died in 2016.

YiaYia is Greek for grandmother and Gus’ mother, Pauline, was the original before Stella

The orange cart is located in the park on West Ohio Street.

Spanos told KDKA-TV that a Facebook page not affiliated with Gus & YiaYia’s has been posting incorrect information and also claimed that Gus would be there for opening, even though he’s passed.

They’re also reportedly trying to scam people for money in exchange for fake merchandize.
