A popular restaurant in Southwestern PA was hit with nearly a dozen violations after an inspection by the PA Department of Agriculture.
The Lamplighter on Route 22 in Delmont was hit with 11 violations after an inspection by the Bureau of Food Safety on Wednesday.
Some of the violations include an employee handing raw ground meat with bare hands and then handling clean utensils without washing their hands. Also, an employee was seen cracking a raw egg then handling a clean plate without washing hands.
The employee then washed their hands and was told about the importance of handwashing.
Also, an employee was see touching toast with bare hands to spread butter on it, another was seen putting French fries back on a plate that had fallen off.
Employees were told to use utensils or gloves when handling ready to eat food.
Another employee was seen cutting raw ground meat on a cutting board and then putting a stack of unpackaged sliced cheese on the same cutting board. That cheese was voluntarily thrown away.
Other issues include several trays of food uncovered in the walk-in cooler under racks that were “rusted/in disrepair and had visible food debris/general grime.”
Inspectors told employees that food items have to be stored and covered if overhead contamination is possible.
Several cold holding items were found to be above the safe temperature of 41 degrees. Those items were corrected.
Several fruit flies were seen in various areas of the kitchen and rodent droppings were seen on floors in the kitchen and on racks in a dry storage basement.
A follow-up inspection will take place within 10 days.
The restaurant is allowed to continue to operate while “out of compliance”.
