Restaurant with nearly 20 violations under Consumer Alert

Pittsburgh's Headlines: June 8, 2026

A restaurant on Pittsburgh’s South Side is under Consumer Alert following a recent inspection.

The Allegheny County Health Department says La Palapa, on the 2200 block of East Carson Street, is under alert after plumbing issues were observed.

Inspectors say employees told them a grease trap began leaking a day or two before the inspection took place on June 6.

The Health Department says the two-compartment sink needs to be upgraded to a three-compartment and the two-compartment sink is not to be used until the grease trap is replaced.

Because the facility does not have a backup plan “for effective sanitizing” a Consumer Alert has been posted.

In total, 19 violations were found, including three considered high-risk.

Those high-risk violations include employees seen handling phones and then going back to handling food without changing gloves or washing hands.

Another employee was seen handling raw chicken and not washing their hands between changing gloves to handle utensils.

Other issues include, two soda guns behind a bar with a building of “pink and gray slime”.

Several cockroaches were found in a basement and in the light fixture in the dishwashing area. Several rodent droppings were found on top of a dish machine and on a sheet pan on the lower shelf in the dish area.
