The wedding industry isn't immune from the same supply chain issues and overwhelming demand plaguing many industries.

As COVID couples and newly engaged couples plan their big days at the same time, the industry is booming. Some vendors are already booking well into 2023.

Jodi Colella, administrator of the popular Pittsburgh Wedding Community Facebook page and organizer of the Pittsburgh Wedding Flea Market said many couples are now planning at full speed.

"We are definitely seeing almost like everyone is coming out of this pandemic," she said. "They're ready to go back into that planning and start accruing and purchasing their decor."

Colella also just opened her own venue in Delmont.

She said demand for events at Station House 7 is already higher than expected.

"I have, between this year and next year, around 45 events, and I just became an official venue last year right after the shutdown," she said.

To help connect married couples with engaged couples interested in buying their wedding decor, Colella coordinates the Pittsburgh Wedding Flea Market, which is typically twice a year.

The event is returning for the first time since the pandemic Saturday at the Monroeville Convention Center.

Colella said the event has sold over 700 tickets and nearly 100 seller spaces.

"Especially with the way prices are right now, it's a win-win because the newlywed or the seller is getting rid of their items," she said. "They're getting some money back, which everybody desperately needs. The person getting married is able to purchase these things at a third of the price."
