Two restaurants in Allegheny County have been ordered closed after an inspection found a piece of equipment leaking in a critical area of one location and a sewage backup at the other.
The Allegheny County Health Department says Al’s Fish & Chicken on Duquesne Boulevard in Duquesne was ordered closed on Wednesday morning due to an active grease trap leak.
The leak is in a “critical area”, (the ware-washing and food storage areas).
In total 14 violations were discovered, one critical and one high-risk.
The high-risk violation is due to fly activity.
“More than 10 flies were seen around kitchen. More than 5 fly papers can be seen around facility,” the report reads.
To reopen, the Health Department says the restaurant has to have planned submitted an approved for installation of a grease trip, it must be installed and the areas affected by the leaking area need to be disinfected.
In Dravosburg, the Chicken Hut on 3rd Street was ordered closed after nine total violations were discovered, including one high-risk.
The high-risk violation is due to a collection of waste water in the restaurant’s basement.
Sewage water was found in “multiple rooms of basement.”
Inspectors say that it is a “chronic” issue with the growth of insects in the area.
The Health Department says the inspection was for a restaurant opening and a permit was denied due to the sewage backup and a lack of hot water.
To reopen, the Chicken Hut must remove all the water from the basement and perform a deep-cleaning of the area.
