A tractor-trailer carrying Moderna COVID-19 vaccines on their way to another country as aid crashed on I-79 near Morgantown, W. Va. early Friday morning, closing a portion of the interstate for several hours.
The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office says around 2 a.m., the driver lost control of the tractor-trailer, struck a concrete barrier and went over an embankment.
He was trapped inside the tractor-trailer and was extricated by first responders. Police say he was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Monongalia County Hazmat says about 50 gallons of oil and anti-freeze leaked from the tractor-trailer into a nearby stream.
I-79 north between Fairmont and Morgantown is currently closed. The southbound side was not impacted.
Police do not know when the road will open again.
