The latest federal COVID-19 relief bill extends eviction moratorium until January 31. It also set aside $25 billion in rental assistance.
But what happens after that deadline?
It's estimated that more than 240,000 Pennsylvanians could face eviction or foreclosure.
Some state lawmakers are pushing to postpone evictions and foreclosures until at least this spring or 60 days after Governor Tom Wolf lifts his emergency declaration.
State Representative Sara Innamorato of Pittsburgh said, "So if we allow these evictions to proceed, it's gonna cause unspeakable pain."
Innamorato cited several studies that show an increase in homelessness will increase the spread of coronavirus.
"One said that just a 1% increase in eviction rate would result in a 5-10% higher incident of infection.
She calls it a true public health crisis and is co-sponsoring legislation to postpone evictions and foreclosures until 60 days after the governor lifts his emergency declaration, which is set to expire in February.
