Dozens gathered on the North Side Wednesday, just blocks from the scene of Sunday morning's mass shooting to call for peace.
It started with a meeting at Allegheny Center Alliance Church. Residents, community leaders and elected officials filled the room for discussion on the issues plaguing local communities and what is needed to fix them.
Faith leader Ghadud Naumel was among those who spoke up.
"You see the corruption at every level. You have to rise above that personally, and say that's not my path."
The group then walked the .3 miles to the home on Suismon Street where two 17-year-old boys were killed and several others injured during a shooting at a party early Sunday morning.
Ruth Howze got a call Sunday morning saying her friend's daughter was at that party.
"She's a very strong woman and she works with kids. I was really surprised. One, she was breaking down, and two, she never imagined that she would be impacted in this way," Howze explained.
She says that was her call to action. Howze is now organizing multiple gatherings this weekend to provide African-American therapists for kids and their parents.
