Over a dozen local offices and organizations are teaming up to create a better response to domestic violence.
The intimate partner violence reform leadership team will work to decide on new policies and initiatives to better support survivors. Nicole Molinaro with the women's center and shelter says by coming together, they can see where response is lacking.
"The working group that is going to come out of this leadership team are the folks that are really going to get down to business and figure out where the silos are, which we already really know, and figure out where the gaps are."
According to county officials, there are more 80 9-1-1 calls for domestic violence in Allegheny County a day. 9-1-1 calls in general decreased at the start of the pandemic, while calls for domestic violence alone went up.
Experts say domestic violence cases saw a sharp increase at the start of the pandemic, and have not subsided since.
