With a GOP senator joining the push to legalize recreational marijuana, it appears the time is coming, perhaps soon, when the legislature passes such a law.
More than one poll shows over 60% of the people surveyed in the Commonwealth approve of the idea including conservative and moderate voters. It will be difficult for lawmakers to walk away from new tax revenue in a state with a budget shortfall in the billions of dollars.
We support Republican Senator Mike Regan’s bid to help shape new legislation.
He brings a law enforcement background to the issue of clearing criminal records for prior cannabis convictions. Regan says it should be limited to people with non-violent convictions.
We also support Representative Amen Brown’s focus on equity, making it a priority to give all Pennsylvanians access to a new industry.
Brown, a Democrat, is also offering a legalization proposal.
It is good to see both Regan and Brown meeting and working together.
