Nearly two weeks after the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse, nearby businesses are feeling the impact.
Trevor Young-Hyman, Vice President of the Regent Square Civic Association says it's the traffic impact causing the most concern.
"It's been super backed up. It's just really slow getting back up and down Braddock. So, you're just not seeing as many people coming over from other parts of the city."
Jim Brown, who owns Frick Park Tavern, says he hasn't seen it hit his bottom line yet, but feels it might in the long run.
"I could see that changing, once the Spring comes along, lots of people coming down from Squirrel Hill and Shadyside deciding not to come to this area because of the traffic," Brown said.
Community leaders are encouraging residents to support businesses near the collapse site, as the area braces for a long cleanup ahead.
Young-Hyman also says his group is reaching out to other civic associations to build support.
"Just try to build up that solidarity between the different neighborhoods because other neighborhoods will experience other difficulties at other points in time," he said.
It could take a few years for the bridge to be completely repaired, according to Councilman Corey O'Connor. Though, thanks to federal funding and the support of PennDOT, it will be a more manageable task than previously considered.
