Local counties are joining the statewide effort to prevent another opioid crisis.

The state attorney general's office says Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and Westmoreland are among 50 counties in PA agreeing to join an opioid settlement that would bring more than $1 billion to the Commonwealth.

It is the state's share of a $26 billion global settlement with three pharmaceutical distributors and Johnson & Johnson.

The settlement requires significant industry changes to prevent another opioid crisis.
