Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald says he supports the city's efforts to host the Republican National Presidential Convention in 2024.
There's been mixed reaction from local democratic official since a Politico report Friday said Pittsburgh is one of the four cities being considered.
Fitzgerald telling Marty Griffin on NewsRadio KDKA that the economic impact would help revitalize the downtown area:
"If we start putting a litmus test on people, the 'You can't check into my hotel unless you have a certain philosophy,' I think it puts us in a bad spot."
City Councilman Revered Ricky Burgess says such a move could be dangerous.
"What do you think would happen if Donald Trump is not the nominee? Do you think the white, hate-group supremacists will take that lying down? There could be a bloodbath on the city streets of Pittsburgh."
GOP officials said they are looking at Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Nashville and Milwaukee as possible hosts.
Visit Pittsburgh confirms it submitted a formal proposal near the end of 2021.
