PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) A local community is petitioning the city to open its pool this summer.

The Sue Murray pool in the North Side will remain closed - at least for the time being - as the city looks for lifeguards and tries to address public safety concerns at the pool.

Leeann Younger - lead pastor at CityView church doesn't want to see a community go the summer without the pool.

Younger says that the pool is a key resource for local kids.

Efforts have been being made between the community and city leaders to get the pool up and running for the summer of 2022.

Councilman Bobby Wilson says there have been productive conversations about addressing the concerns over the pool.

According to Wilson, recruiting efforts to find new lifeguards have been working well.

The pool initially needed 12 lifeguards.
