After three years with the station, Lynne Hayes-Freeland will be leaving her noon to 3 p.m. show for KDKA in November.

“We have been grateful and fortunate to have her be such a large part of KDKA over the past three years,” said KDKA Friday.

Even though Hayes-Freeland will be leaving her noon to 3 p.m. show, she will contribute to KDKA on a weekly basis in the future. Starting in January of 2022 people will be able to see and read Hayes-Freeland’s work in:

•            A weekly for one hour with Marty Griffin

•            A weekly column on kdkaradio.com

•            Various social media posts

•            Her monthly hosting of Minority Health Matters, and

•            Endorsements

“Lynne’s career in the Pittsburgh media needs no comment from me, simply said she is an icon in the city and a pillar of the community,” said KDKA Senior Vice President Michael Spacc.

“Coming to KDKA-Radio felt like a homecoming,” she said of her tie with the station. “It’s where I started my broadcast career after college, and it seemed like the perfect place to circle back to. But like so many others, the pandemic gave me a clarity I did not expect. I used to laugh when I heard people retire or leave a job and say they wanted to spend more time with family. I get it now.”

Hayes-Freeland is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren.

“My grandchildren have literally changed my world. So much so, I don’t want to miss any more special moments with them,” said. “But it’s tough because I believe my work here isn’t done. That’s why I am grateful for the opportunity to continue that work, only now on a schedule that better suits my needs.”

Hayes-Freeland’s final show will be Nov. 12. KDKA is now beginning an immediate national search for its next host.
