If you travel on Route 28 you probably won’t believe it, but PennDOT construction projects are winding down as the winter months approach.
But, when spring 2024 rolls around, it’s going to be a very heavy traffic season.
Some of the most heavily traveled roads in Pittsburgh, like Parkway East, I-79 and McKnight road, will be getting some major makeovers.
It's been almost 15 years since some of these roads have seen major construction.
District Executive of PennDOT District 11 Jason Zang feels its pertinent to get crews out there to the job done.
“We do everything in our power to balance the need of the work plus what the impact’s going to be to the public so, if we don’t work on these roads and bridges they’re continuing to deteriorate so we have to get out there and you can’t do the work without being in people’s way,” said Zang.
While a lot of the work will be done in off-peak and overnight hours, there's so much work needed that some will be pushed into the summer and fall of 2025.
