
400,000 customers were without power at the peak of Tuesday's severe thunderstorms.
Wind gusts as high as 70 miles per hour brought down trees and power lines and damaged buildings.
There were tornado warnings but no reports yet of funnel clouds touching down.
Duquesne Light says utility crews are working around the clock to restore power.
There have been 20,000 reports of hazards which will slow the process down.
The order of restoration is: public safety hazards, public health and safety facilities, major circuits and small neighborhoods or individual homes.
Restoration of power will be slower than normal due to the large number of hazards.
On Wednesday morning around 300,000 people were still without power.
Many schools and businesses are closed today due to power outages and storm damage.
Businesses on the South Side and several other areas suffered damage, including Fiori’s in Beechview, where the roof was blown off the famous pizzeria.
Two storm-related deaths were reported last night. A man was electrocuted by a live power line in the South Side Flats. Details on the second death have yet to be released.
Pittsburgh Fire Fighters were trapped for a short time in Brookline and needed to be rescued.
Downed trees and powerlines have closed many roads around the area.

Route 2073 (Allegheny River Boulevard) between Sandy Creek Road and James Street in the Municipality of Penn Hills and Verona Borough.
Route 2080 (Hunter Road) between Colorado Street and Plum Street in the Municipality of Penn Hills.
Route 2082 (Hulton Road) between Allegheny Avenue and 5th Street in Oakmont Borough.
Route 3028 (Boyds Run Road) between Hilltop Road and Thoms Run Road in Collier Township.
Route 3048 (Noblestown Road) between Sunnyside Avenue and Walkers Mill Road in Collier Township.
Route 3117 (Dorrington Road) between Hilltop Road and Noblestown Road in Collier Township.
Route 3053 (Seabright Road) between North Branch Road and Noblestown Road in North Fayette Township.

He said he’s never seen the amount of damage he witnessed in 55 years on Tuesday night.
On the Big K Morning Show, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato said today the emphasis is on safety.
“We have a lot of kids that are off of school today, we have people that are commuting into work right now, please use caution,” said Innamorato. “There are downed wires, there are downed trees. Please procced with caution.”
