A man who led police on a chase along Route 28 early Wednesday morning has been charged with killing his mother.

36-year-old Shane McDevitt was arrested after he crashed a car into a utility pole. He was wanted in connection with the death of his mother, Ceclia Liposky. Police in Lawrence County say they were called to Liposky's home Tuesday for a wellness check and found her dead with a bloody hammer nearby.

Investigators determined McDevitt had been staying at her home and had a long history of drug use.

McDevitt was spotted by officers this morning in Allegheny County driving his mother's car. After McDevitt was arrested this morning, police say he admitted to killing his mother.

He faces multiple charges, including criminal homicide. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on May 18th in Magisterial District Judge Richard Russo's chambers.
