Man Wanted for Multiple Charges; Evades Arrest Before Capture

A man wanted for aggravated assault and more managed to evade arrest Thursday is now in the Allegheny County Jail.

Sheriff's officers trying to serve a warrant for Anthony Townsend say the found him inside a Tesla on Wylie Avenue in the Hill District. They say the 31-year-old drove away, damaging two sheriff's office vehicles.

A brief pursuit ended when the detectives lost sight of vehicle Townsend was driving. The same Tesla was found about 30 minutes later, unoccupied, in McKees Rocks. Officers say Townsend can be seen walking away on video.

He later surrendered at the Municipal Courts Building at 9:30 last night.

Townsend was arraigned on 16 counts including five for aggravated assault and five more for reckless endangerment.

Townsend remains in jail with a preliminary hearing set for the 17th.
