Pittsburgh native Mark Cuban and The Mark Cuban Foundation have donated $100,000 to support the #BurghProud Challenge, a movement during the month of June to support neighbors facing hunger across southwestern Pennsylvania.
This gift, along with the Richard King Mellon Foundation's dollar-for-dollar matching commitment, will generate a total impact of $200,000 for local families facing hunger.
Brian Gulish of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, says they couldn't be more excited.
“To date we have more than 3,400 participants who joined this initiative and we’ve already raised more than $380,000,” said Gulish.
The #BurghProud Challenge officially kicked off on Monday with support from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins and Steelers, along with GoFundMe and more.
The challenge is inviting participants to move 30 miles over 30 days while fundraising to help provide food for those in need around the Pittsburgh region.
