Big K Morning Show co-host Marty Griffin’s wife Kristine Sorensen is giving an update on his condition, after he developed severe throat pain last week and had to go to the hospital.
Kristine says Marty had a procedure done last week that helped literally stretch out his throat using a balloon.
The procedure helps with constrictions due to acid reflux and his previous throat cancer diagnosis.
Marty then broadcasted for eight hours straight during our Warmathon last Thursday.
At some point, a small tear happened in his throat. That got infected and he was also dealing with a fungal infection called thrush.
Marty said the pain was so bad, on a scale of 1 to 10, he gave it a 12.
“He could barely swallow,” said Kristine on The Big K Morning Show Wednesday.
Once in the hospital over the weekend, a scan found an abnormality, which scared Marty since he has a history with throat cancer.
To make matters worse, something got into Marty’s lungs and that caused pneumonia.
The good news is once Marty started on antibiotics and antifungal medicine, he started to feel better.
Kristine says Marty is still having trouble eating and is only able to eat soft foods and is having trouble with fatigue and getting his strength up.
She adds it’s “going to be a while” before Marty is back to 100 percent.
It could take up to six weeks for Marty to fight the pneumonia.
Marty is also on voice rest until further notice.
We’ll keep you updated on any developments with Marty’s health and when he will return to the air with Larry.
