Massive house fire in Shaler takes life of 2-year-old, hospitalizes 8 others

A massive fire in Shaler Township took the life of a two-year-old girl and left several firefighters injured.

It broke out around 9:45 p.m. Friday night at 750 Fall run road.


Two-year-old Danika DeRamo, was found on the first floor of the burning home and taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Four of the firefighters on the scene were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said there were four other individuals in the home that were able to escape and later hospitalized. Two of them were taken by ambulance and two by private vehicles.

"Our hearts go out to the family, and all involved in the rescue of this young child," Police Chief Frank said in a release. "Please keep all involved in your thoughts and prayers."

An investigation is still being conducted by Shaler police assisted by the county fire marshal and Allegheny County police.
