The owner of Mei A. Asian Grocery in McKeesport has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after being convicted of food stamp fraud and money laundering conspiracy.

Information presented in court showed that from March 2014 through May 2017, Glassport resident Sin Y Sit, 46, and his wife Qiao Jiang let customers exchange foods stamp credits for cash, paying 50 cents on the dollar. They also took the credits for items that were not approved as part of the program, like tobacco products.

It's estimated that the amount of fraud is between $250,000 and $550,000.

Sit also used money from the USDA to pay customers exchanging food stamp credits for cash.

U.S. Attorney Stephen Kaufman said Sit was sentenced to 27 months in prison and two years of supervised release.
