Video released of McKeesport police officer shooting, search for armed and dangerous suspect continues

A McKeesport man is wanted after he allegedly shot a McKeesport police officer Sunday afternoon.

Allegheny County Police say 22-year-old Koby Lee Francis was served with a Protection From Abuse order around 3pm on Sunday.

Just before 4pm, McKeesport officers were called to a home on Yester Square, where Francis was found sitting in a vehicle outside the home. According to police, this was a violation of the PFA order and at 4:04pm, Francis was taken into police custody.

A gun was also taken from his vehicle.

Police say he was combative during the arrest and while being transported to the McKeesport Police station, kicking outed a window in the police car.

It was at the police station, when an officer opened the door to take Francis out of the vehicle that police say Francis, who had a second gun, opened fire, shooting the officer in the neck and torso three times. The officer then returned fire.

Francis fled on foot, still handcuffed. He had been handcuffed with his hands behind his back, but video shows that his hands were in front of his body as he ran away.

Initially police did not release the name of the 32-year-old police officer who was shot. Late Monday morning, Allegheny County Police said the officer who was shot is named Gerasimos Athans. They said his injuries are not life-threatening.

Also on Monday, police released the video of the shooting.

Police are now searching for Francis, who they say is 6' 2" tall, has a thin build and has black hair and black eyes. He was wearing a black hoodie and camo pants and had on black shoes with white soles.
