It's been a couple of days now since Monessen started pleading for donations of trees and benches in an effort to beautify three of the city's largest parks.
"It makes sense to plant more trees because you could raise property values and it's just nicer to look at. You know, who doesn't like walking through a park with trees, especially in the fall? And benches, obviously, very practical," Mayor Shorraw said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show on Wednesday. "I think it's just a nice way to building community back too."
Mayor Shorraw tells Larry and Kevin that so far, response has been good, but they need more.
"You can donate them in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone", he says, "so I think it's just a nice way of building community back, too, because you go to the park and you say, 'Hey that's my tree or that's my bench'".
The trees and benches will be installed in City Park, 6th Street Park, and 9th Street Park. Their goal is to have least 10 trees and five benches in each park. If you want to donate, contact Monessen City Hall.
