The Monroeville Convention Center will close in early June to become a Hobby Lobby.

The owners of the convention center, Oxford Development, have a 12-year lease with the arts and craft chain.

As of June 1, 2024, Hobby Lobby will take over the lease.

Steel City Con that hosts three events a year at the location says their April show will not be affected, but they need to find a new location for their August and December shows.

“We thank the Monroeville Convention Center and the city of Monroeville for over 30 years of hosting Steel City Con,” organizers said in a statement on Facebook. “We look forward to hosting our shows as scheduled in a new venue, and will be making subsequent announcements soon.”

Other shows are out of luck and need to find a new location entirely including the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo, which is scheduled for September 30 and October 1.

The building is across the street from Monroeville Mall and have 100,000 square feet of space.

The convention center hosted Sportsman’s shows, golf shows, travel shows, first responder shows, dance competitions, arts and crafts festivals and more for nearly the past 15 years.
