Monroeville Police are warning of a scammer pretending to be one of their officers.
The department says the person tries to get money from his victims by saying a loved one needs bail money.
He's even known to use names of potential victims' family members.
Police are reminding people not to give out money or information without independently verifying where it's going.
In a Facebook post, they wrote: "If anyone is attempting to get money from you, especially if they want the money in gift cards, please DO NOT give them anything! (This includes information as well as money.) HANG UP THE PHONE. If you are concerned, you are welcome to call our non-emergency number of 412-856-1111 and ask about the situation."
