Montour defeated Chartiers Valley by a score of 78-67 in a packed house at Montour. The ticket line was nearly out the door and it was standing room only.
Chartiers Valley looked great to start the game, grabbing an early lead over the Spartans. Montour fought back throughout the first quarter and strung together multiple stops, as Colton Straight ended the quarter with two straight buckets, including one at the buzzer. After the late push, Montour was up 16-14 after 1.
The second quarter was a fast paced, high scoring, back and forth battle. Chartiers opened up the quarter with a 3 to retake the lead. Neither team could miss, as they traded 3s, eventually tying the game at 27.
Montour big man, Ama Tening Sow, began to make his presence felt inside by grabbing offensive rebounds, and drawing fouls. He was great from the foul line all night. It's rare to see a high school big who's so consistently good from the line. Sow finished the quarter with a rebound and putback just as the halftime buzzer sounded. Montour was up 39-34 at the break.
Chartiers came out firing in the 3rd quarter, hitting a 3 and tying the game at 39 on the Jayden Davis bucket. The Spartans then went on a run of their own, scoring 8 straight, including a couple of 3s.
Colton Straight, Kaleb Platz, and Andrew Alston were all hitting 3s tonight for Montour. Straight ended the quarter with a pull-up 3 at the buzzer to give Montour an 8 point leading heading into the final quarter with the score 59-51 in favor of the Spartans.
This is as close as things would get for Chartiers Valley. Kaleb Platz scored back to back buckets in the low post and dished out and assist as Montour scored 6 straight to start the quarter and push their lead to 14. Chartiers Valley star, Jayden Davis, did his best to keep the Colts in the game, but Montour proved to be too much, as the dunks started pouring in from Ama Tening Sow.
He had a two-handed jam off the feed from Platz and followed that up with a posterizing dunk as he drove down the left side of the lane and punched it. Chartiers continued to hit some threes down the stretch, but it was too little too late. Montour would win this one by a final score of 78-67.
Colton Straight was the high point man for Montour tonight, as he finished with 29 points, including three triples and Ama Sow posted another double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Kaleb Platz and Andrew Alston were in double figures as well. Platz had 14 points and Alston had 12 points on four 3s.
Montour heads to Blackhawk this Friday, while Chartiers Valley is set to host Moon in another big 5A clash.
