The North Strabane man who shot and killed a bald eagle in Washington County last year will serve no prison time after agreeing to a plea bargain.
Rodney Thomas pleaded guilty Monday morning to violating the federal Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
Thomas was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and contribute $9,800 in restitution to an animal sanctuary.
The 51-year-old told investigators he thought the bird was a turkey vulture and turned himself in when he learned it was a bald eagle.
