A massive new low-barrier homeless shelter is set to open in Pittsburgh's Downtown area later this month.
The opening will come during a time of record levels of homelessness in the city.
A $1.2 million grant helped the funding for the shelter to be built as a part of a new bill.
The Second Avenue Commons was initially set to open sometime in October, but according to the Post-Gazette, the five-story facility should be completed, inspected and approved by November 15th.
The facility will hold 95 bed for housing and up to 40 additional beds in the winter.
They will also provide assistance for those who have pets and are using drugs.
The opening comes amid record levels of homelessness in the city and county and as local leaders work to keep the crisis from growing.
