A new plaque hangs in the Pittsburgh Fire Academy Training Center honoring 150 years of Pittsburgh firefighters who died on the job.

The plaque, donated by the Pittsburgh Veteran Firefighters, was dedicated in a ceremony Wednesday in Highland Park.

From 1837 to 2008, 134 Pittsburgh firefighters died on the job.

"They made the ultimate sacrifice for us," said Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones. "We hope that their memories will be eternal. We celebrate their lives and their memories.

Among the crowd Wednesday morning were Glenn and Linda Terry, the son and wife of firefighter Glenn Terry, who died of a brain aneurism at the firehouse in 1994.

"This was definitely a big step for me," said the younger Glenn Terry. Mentally, emotionally, there's a lot going on in my head, but it's definitely good things."

He says his father's story inspired him to become a firefighter.

Linda Terry added Wednesday would have been her late husband's birthday.

"The City of Pittsburgh has not forgotten about the fallen firefighters who served the City of Pittsburgh," she said. "It was heartfelt."
