No jumping into the Youghiogheny River on New Year’s Day.
The Connellsville Polar Bear Club has canceled its Polar Bear Jump saying the event would likely violate COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
The group posted this message on their Facebook page:
"The Connellsville Polar Bear Club Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the New Year’s Day Polar Bear Jump into the Youghiogheny River that was scheduled to take place on January 1, 2021. The recent spike in COVID 19 cases in Fayette County and surrounding communities as well as not seeing any end to this pandemic in the immediate future led to this decision."

The annual jump attracts participants from all over and is a fundraiser for Connellsville Community Ministries and the Polar Bear Club is still asking for donations of food and money.
Earlier this week, Governor Tom Wolf said COVID-19 cases in Pennsylvania have reached "critical Levels" and he urged residents to follow mitigation guidelines that are in place throughout the state.
