It’s called the busiest drinking night of the year.

The night before Thanksgiving sees people meet up with old friends they have not seen in years and the bars around Pittsburgh fill up for reunions.

With so many people drinking and more people on the road, it’s also one of the deadliest days of the year for drunk driving.

In the Pittsburgh area, there isn’t a scheduled DUI check point from the West Hills DUI Task Force, but police will be out there.

Lieutenant Shener R. Ulke with Moon Township Police says police know Wednesday is a popular day for drinking.

“I would expect there to be heightened awareness amongst Law Enforcement next Wednesday,” said Ulke.

Ulke suggests putting in a “safe driving plan” into plan before they go out drinking on Wednesday.

“It’s hard to put a “safe driving plan” into action after the drinking starts,” said Ulke.

That means assigning a designated driver or having a plan for a cab, Uber/Lyft or other ride.
