Allegheny County Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in Ben Avon early Tuesday morning.
It happened a little after 1:30 a.m. following a traffic stop on Ohio River Boulevard.
Avalon Police saw a vehicle with tinted windows and a tinted license plate cover traveling northbound when they initiated a stop.
Ohio Township Police arrived on the scene, pulling in front of the vehicle.
As an officer with Avalon walked toward the vehicle, the driver pulled onto Ohio River Boulevard and “made contact” with an officer, who was not injured. That officer then fired one toward the vehicle as it drove toward Pittsburgh.
Through an investigation, detectives identified the vehicle and found it just after 6 a.m. in Homewood with a bullet in the driver’s side window.
A 25-year-old man who was behind the wheel at the time of the incident was found uninjured. He is currently not facing any charges at this time.
After an investigation is finished, the district attorney’s office will review for any possible charges.
