City Controller Michael Lamb released an audit back in June regarding public works, only to have it ignored when winter hit.
Lamb looked at salt distribution along with use of equipment and found issues with both.
Not only that, he noticed that equipment was not working the way vendors were saying they were, and vendors were getting away with it.
He presented 12-15 recommendations to city council members.
Although they initially agreed to all of the recommendations, Lamb tells KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin by the time winter rolled around everything fell through.
“When it came time for implementation as we saw this winter, they weren’t ready,” Lamb said. “They hadn’t implemented the changes to equipment, they hadn’t dealt with this vendor problem, and they got themselves in a situation where they pretty much ignored their agreement to the recommendations.”
He finished the interview by saying Pittsburghers don’t ask for much, and that the city has failed in handling basic issues that winter presents.
