Online alcohol sales in Pennsylvania increase 436% over previous fiscal year

Allegheny County lead the state in alcohol sales for the 2019-20 fiscal year

Online sales of alcohol soared in Pennsylvania this year, which likely comes as no surprise given the lockdown due to COVID-19 earlier in 2020.

In its annual report just released, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board said online sales exceeded $26 million - an increase of 436 percent in the fiscal year 2019-20.


Unit sales also increased dramatically year over year. 1.3 million units were sold in the state for an increase of nearly 852 percent.

In the prior fiscal year, online sales accounted for $5 million  and just 135,776 units sold.

Allegheny County saw the most sales across the state with residents spending over $288,000 this fiscal year.

Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties rounded out the top three counties in the state when it comes to sales this year. Combined, these three counties accounted for close to 35 percent of all sales across the state.

While these counties topped sales figures for the year, all three were down compared to the 2018-19 fiscal year.

The number one product purchased online in Pennsylvania was a 1 liter bottle of Tito's Handmade Vodka.

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky was the top spirit sold at Fine Wind & Good Spirits stores for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Four of the biggest sale days for the year occurred after announcements that the stores would be closing due to COVID-19.
