Pennsylvania’s Attorney General is taking on Meta over what he calls deceptive, A.I.-generated weight-loss ads.
Attorney General Dave Sunday is leading a bipartisan coalition of 35 attorneys general urging Meta to crack down on deceptive weight-loss drug advertising on Facebook and Instagram.
The coalition says companies are using artificial intelligence to create misleading ads featuring fake before-and-after photos, false medical claims, and nonexistent spokespeople.
Many promotions involve non-FDA-approved GLP-1 drugs and promise rapid weight loss without disclosing risks or side effects.
The attorneys general are calling on Meta to enforce its advertising policies, ban AI-generated weight-loss ads, and restrict drug promotions to FDA-approved products, emphasizing that consumers deserve accurate and honest health information.
