A State Trooper is recovering after he was shot in Aliquippa early Friday morning.

Investigators say two troopers were in the area when they noticed a disturbance at Franklin Mini-Mart. Inside the store, they saw an armed man, who allegedly shot one of the troopers in the leg.

Troop D Commander William Maitland says bystanders stepped in quickly.

"The members from the community who stepped in, without hesitation, assisted our troopers. Not only the trooper who was shot, but assisted the other trooper with getting the suspect into custody," said Commander Maitland.

The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Damian Bradford. Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker says when people think of the city - they should remember those who helped.

"The shooting was not who we are. The people that showed up, that's who we are," Mayor Walker said.

Lt. Col Jeremey Richards says it's yet another example of senseless gun violence in our communities.

"Gun violence has been negatively impacting communities across the state and we have been seeing too many innocent persons become victims," Lt. Colonel Richards said.

The trooper is expected to make a full recovery. Police say charges against Bradford are forthcoming.
