Pennsylvania Treasurer divests millions from Russian-based companies

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is removing state money from Russian investments.

State Treasurer Stacy Garrity says the investments total about $2.9 million invested in 31 companies - mostly banks and energy companies.

"I just knew it was the right thing to do," Garrity said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Wednesday. "Every dollar matters and we need to protect Pennsylvania taxpayers. And also we wanted to stand with Ukraine, and I'm kind of a less talk more action kind of individual."

She says losses will be minimal as the amount invested in Russia by Pennsylvania is relatively small by international standards.
