UPDATE: Parents turn themselves in; charged with endangering welfare of children

The parents of a boy fatally shot by his older brother in a Penn Hills home are being charged with felony child endangerment.

Sara Gerwig, 37, and Thomas Wolfe, 35, turned themselves in at the Penn Hills magistrate's office Wednesday morning. Gerwig and Wolfe are getting charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Police say 13-year-old Keegan McGivern shot 5-year-old Connor Wolfe as he threatened him with a handgun on November 22nd.

The teen is facing homicide and gun charges. According to officials, the 13-year-old pointed the firearm at the his 5-year-old sibling, pulled the trigger believing that the safety was on.

Police say Thomas Wolfe admitted to leaving a loaded handgun on top of a gun safe.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous. The department can also be reached via its social media sites.
