Minor work will begin today on a major...three year project along the Parkway West.
The $58 million project will bring the region's first Diverging Diamond Interchange, designed to eliminate sever crashes by avoiding left turns across oncoming traffic.
Overall, District 11 Chief Engineer Jason Zang said at this year's construction preview, it will eventually include single-lane closures, traffic shifts, bridge replacements and more.
“Large project, very exciting, it’s going to be a great improvement to that area,” said Zang. “Again, that starts this year and that will wrap up in the fall of 2029. So, building two bridges, two ramps, a lot of work to do there.”
Zang says a Diverging Diamond Interchange may be confusing the first time you encounter it, but if you follow the signage and stay within your lane, it won't be that difficult for drivers to adapt to.
