Patients return to PNC Park for second dose of COVID vaccines

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — Allegheny Health Network had worked with PNC Park to set up a de facto clinic to administer the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines back on Feb. 6.

But now, patients will return to the ballpark Saturday for the second dose of the vaccine.

An estimated 2,500 "high-risk seniors" had received the first administration of the vaccine earlier this month.

Saturday's clinic will dole out the second version of the vaccine for those who received the first and are preregistered.

The clinic will only be open to those who received the first dose already.

No walk-ins will be accepted.

To date, AHN has vaccinated 13,000 patients while working with PNC Park.

"Each dose of the vaccine that we administer represents hope for the recipient and their loved ones, and for our communities in general as we all yearn for an end to this pandemic and the return to a more normal way of life," said Allie Quick, AHN chief philanthropy officer.

"Meeting the health needs of the community during the pandemic, including the launch of our vaccination program, has required significant resources, and we are extremely grateful to the Richard King Mellon Foundation and the Hillman L. Foundation for their incredibly generous support of those efforts."

The Saturday clinic will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
