PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) PennDOT is starting several projects across the Pittsburgh area this week.
Among those projects are slide repair on Saltsburg Road in Penn Hills with a closure expected to last until late September.
The next phase of the Rt. 837 remake in West Homestead also starts today with a closure there into early October.
PennDOT planned on using West 8th Avenue as the detour, but safety hazards were brought to their attention.
"A big part of the problem is trucks," PennDOT's Jason Zang said. "There is a separate truck detour but they are ignoring it."
With trucks ignoring their specific detours, PennDOT is being forced to close the entire road to commence their work.
"There's people that live along there. We decided the safe thing to do would be to close it again and put the detour back in place we had in July."
East Carson Street on the South Side will continue to get facelifts and improvements for safety and flow.
McKnight Road will see work getting done as PennDOT is closing two ramps to and from Babcock Boulevard for bridge work through the end of the month.
