Teachers in the Penns Manor Area School District intend to strike Monday unless last minute contract negotiations today end in a breakthrough.
The post-gazette reports the union has given district negotiators until 3:00 p.m. today to respond to its last proposal, or teachers will strike Monday morning.
The main concerns between the two parties are healthcare and early retirement incentives.
A strike was initially authorized in November and six bargaining meetings with the district have been held since then.
The district serves three communities in Indiana County, Clymer, Pine and Cherryhill.
While district representatives say there has been a decline in enrollment in recent years and less money coming in through property taxes, the union contends the district has the money to meet the demands of the 68 educators it represents.
All classes within the district are cancelled for Monday and could remain closed until the strike is done.
An informational meeting will be held at the elementary school tomorrow at 6:00 p.m., with the district encouraging the community to attend.
